The Montague girls basketball team christened its 2021-22 season with an exciting 45-38 win over host Comstock Park and had an 18-point performance from Claire Meacham on Tuesday.

The Wildcats fought tooth and nail, exchanging blows with Comstock for three quarters. Montague’s defense was able to settle the Panthers down in the fourth, using a 14-6 scoring advantage to pull away. 

Meacham racked up 18 points for Montague while Kendall Osborne posted 11 points and Haylee Schwartz added 10 points.

Montague trailed 12-11 after the first but rallied back to a 22-21 lead at halftime. The Wildcats trailed 32-31 entering the fourth quarter.

Montague will take on their first West Michigan Conference opponent on Friday when they travel to Oakridge to square off with the Eagles at 7 p.m
