The Newaygo girls basketball team came out hot against Whitehall and never looked back on Tuesday.

The Lions used a nice first-quarter run and a big night from Jaxi Long to come away with a 50-25 win over the Vikings.

Long caught fire from behind the arc for Newaygo, draining six 3-pointers to score a game-high 24 points.

Newaygo jumped out to a 15-4 first-quarter lead and led 27-10 by halftime. The Lions outscored Whitehall 15-7 in the third and played even in the fourth.

Whitehall was led by Marissa Syrandberg, McKena Coron, and Charley Klint with five points each.

Whitehall is now 1-2 on the season and hosts North Muskegon on Thursday.
