NORTON SHORES–The North Muskegon boys basketball team got the best of Western Michigan Christian on Tuesday evening handing the Warriors their fourth loss in a row by a 44-29 margin.

The Norse went up 30-14 before halftime and though the second half saw more balanced scoring the Warriors just couldn’t catch up.

Defense was a key contributor to the victory as the Warriors struggled against their 2-3 zone allowing North Muskegon to maintain a lead.

This was definitely our best defensive effort of the season and we’re hoping to keep the momentum going as we go into the Hall of Game next week,” said North Muskegon head coach Chuck Rypstra.

Leading the way for the Norse was Brandon Rypstra, who scored 13 points while Troy McManus had 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals. James Young added eight points. Jason Bogue grabbed seven rebounds and chipped in five points.

WMC was led by Jared Olsen with 13 points and Sam Liggett tossed in nine points. Joe Waller pulled down 10 rebounds and scored six points.

It’s back to the drawing board for the Warriors as they look to bounce back and get a win under their belt.

We will continue to work on taking care of the basketball and limiting turnovers,” said Coach Kurt Gruppen.

North Muskegon improves to 2-2 on the season and will compete in the Hall of Fame Classic at Reeths-Puffer against Orchard View on Tuesday.

Western Michigan Christian drops to 0-4 and will host Manistee on Friday January 7th in a Lakes 8 Activities conference matchup.
