GRAND RAPIDS–The Mona Shores boys basketball team opened up the Cornerstone University Holiday Tournament with a strong start, with a opening round win over the Tri-Unity Christian Defenders, in the Blue Division, 65-54 on Monday evening.
It was neck and neck between the two teams in the first half with the Defenders hanging unto a slim two point lead at the end of the first half by a score of 25-23.
But coming out of the break, the Sailors adjusted and cracked down on defense holding off the Defenders down the stretch outscoring Tri-Unity 42-29 in the second half of action.
Mona Shores’ Parker Swartz led the way for the Sailors with a game high 24 points while grabbing five rebounds.
With an outstanding performance on the night, Keontae Richards had a career high game tossing in 23 points, hauling down seven rebounds, dishing out six assists and coming up with three steals.
Mona Shores is 2-2 on the season and will compete in the next round of the Holiday Tournament on Wednesday evening at Cornerstone University against Covenant Christian.
