The Mona Shores hockey team came into the weekend with a 4-0 record and fresh off an exciting 3-0 shutout of Forest Hills Central on Wednesday.
Saturday, the Sailors faced visiting Byron Central for a 10 a.m. puck drop, and came out clean with a 6-5 win in overtime.
Mona Shores’ Ty Langlois was the hero Saturday morning, tallying the game-winning goal off assists from Jake Nanna and Trent Benedict.
The Sailors trailed 2-1 after the first period, getting a goal from Ty Langlois on an assist from Benedict.
The second period was all Mona Shores as the Sailors tallied three-straight goals.
Nanna tied the score for the Sailors, Benedict put his team up 3-2 and Kolin Jackson gave Mona Shores a 4-2 lead.
After letting in a late goal in the second period, and an opening goal of the third period, Mona Shores found itself tied 4-4.
Nico Taylor gave the Sailors a 5-4 lead in the third but their defense faltered and let in a Byron Center goal, forcing overtime.
Ty Langlois finished with two goals and an assist to lead Mona Shores. Benedict tallied a goal and three assists while Nanna had a goal and two assists.
Nick Kelly posted the win in goal for Mona Shores.
