The Muskegon Risers kicked off their indoor soccer season with a 9-7 win against host Cincinnati on Saturday.

Ryan Zietlow lifted Muskegon with a hat trick, scoring the Risers’ final two goals in a game that saw five lead changes. 

The Risers jumped to an early 2-0 lead but gave up a pair of goals to finish the first quarter tied at 2-2.

Muskegon then withstood an intense second quarter that had four Cincinnati goals but reversed a 6-3 deficit with four straight goals from the Risers for a 6-6 tie.

Aldony Mendez broke the tie for the third quarter’s only goal and a 7-6 Muskegon lead. 

The Risers let Cincinnati back into the game to start the fourth quarter but Zietlow shut the door, scoring the game’s final two goals. 

Muskegon had eight different players score in the team effort. Brandon Edwards, Miguel Flores, Michael Schmitt, Adam Knight, Caue Oliveira, Aldony Mendez each scored goals in the winning effort for Muskegon. 

The Risers next face the Chicago Mustangs on Saturday, December 18.
