LAKEVIEW—Behind the one-two punch of Lexi Bowers and Maddie Geers, the Kent City girls basketball team cruised by Lakeview on Friday evening by a final score of 60-33.

Kent City, ranked second in Division 3 in the most recent Associated Press Michigan High School basketball polls improved its record to 13-0 overall and 6-0 in the Central State Activities Association-Silver.

The combination of Lexie Bowers who finished with a game high 29 points, 7 steals to go with 4 assists and Maddie Geers who canned 17 points, while grabbing 6 rebounds, dishing out 6 assists and having 3 blocked shots were too much for Lakeview to overcome.

The Wildcats would stay within striking distance, only trailing the Eagles 13-6 after the first eight minutes of play.

Both teams would struggle in the second stanza with Kent City holding an 8-5 scoring advantage to take a 22-11 halftime lead.

Kent City went on to finish the second half strong with a 38-22 scoring advantage.

Abby Pecynski led Kent City with 8 rebounds while coming up with 3 steals. Sylvia Freeland grabbed 6 rebounds to along with 5 steals and Denyle Bonter chipped in with 5 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals.

The Eagles will face some tough competition this week.

Kent City will host Sparta on Tuesday evening. Sparta comes into the game on top of the OK Conference-Silver with a perfect 6-0 record and a 10-1 overall record.

Friday evening the Eagles will host conference rival Morley-Stanwood, in what could decide the CSAA-Silver title. The Mohawks lone conference loss was to Kent City back on December 17 in a game played on the Mohawks home court by a score of 65-55. Morley trails Kent City by one game in league play.
