NORMAL, IL–Former Kent City all-state basketball player Kenzie Bowers is making a mark as a freshman at Illinois State this season.

The 5-9 guard logged 21 minutes on New Years Day for the Division 1 Redbirds in a Missouri Valley Conference game against Bradley.

Bowers was 0-of-5 from the field and 0-of-2 from beyond the arch, while grabbing three rebounds and having a pair of steals in the Redbirds 64-57 victory.

Illinois State is currently 5-7 overall and 1-0 in conference action.

Bowers posted a season-high 17 points on Dec. 1 in a season-high 27 minutes. That performance came against Missouri Baptist.

She is averaging 3.2 points-per-game, logged a total of 157 minutes of playing time and grabbed 15 rebounds.

Bowers graduated from Kent City as the all-time leading scorer (girl or boy) with 1,822 career points and as the first athlete from the Eagle basketball program to sign with a Division 1 program.

Bowers led Kent City to an 84-12 overall record with four conference titles, four district championships, two regional titles and a state finals appearance in 2021 in Division 3.

Following the 2021 season, Bowers was named the Mlive Muskegon Region Player of the Year and to the All-State Team. She also earned All-State, All-Area and All-Conference honors during the 2019-20 season.
