The Fremont boys basketball team earned a big CSAA win against Big Rapids on Friday.

In a tight and intense contest, the Packers pulled out a 57-54 win.

A big bucket from Jordon McDonald and a pair of clutch free throws by Logan Nelson, iced the game for Fremont.

The Packers took a six-point lead at halftime after falling behind by six at the first quarter break.

Swinging that momentum into the third quarter, the Packers built up an 11-point lead before the Cardinals flipped a switch going on an 11-0 scoring run to cancel out Fremont’s momentum.

With less than a minute left to play, the Packers were down by one point when Blake Hanshue scooped up a loose ball to find McDonald in traffic for a go ahead bucket. Nelson was able to knock down two crucial free throws to solidify the win.

It was another big game for McDonald, racking up 25 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Nelson ended the night with 11 points and two steals while Joey DeLong added nine points and four rebounds.

Gavin Richards also chipped in for the Packers with seven points and six rebounds.

Fremont climbs to 8-5 on the season and an impressive 7-1 record to sit atop the conference. The Packers will be at home on Tuesday to take on Orchard View in non-league action.
