Fruitport Calvary Christian put themselves in a hole that it couldn’t climb out of in its 58-52 boys basketball loss to West Michigan Aviation on Tuesday.

Poor shooting and a parade of 3-pointers by the Aviators led to an early deficit.

The Eagles climbed back to trail 48-47 with two minutes to play but could not complete the comeback.

“A D2 school of 600 students is going to have some big fast athletes and I thought our boys followed the game plan,” said Calvary Christian Coach Brad Richards. “We limited turnovers and fought hard – but just couldn’t finish at the rim.

The Eagles struggled from the field, shooting a dismal 27%.

Leading the Eagles (7-2, 2-1) was Bradley Richards with 15 points and 13 rebounds while Nick Swanson put up a career-high 14 points.

Raj Grewel pulled down 11 rebounds and Jacob May dished out seven assists in the lass.

The Aviators (7-3, 3-0) were led by Joey Riebel with 13 points.
