Holton girls basketball faced No. 5 ranked in Division 2 Newaygo on Tuesday and dropped a 48-26 decision to the Lions.

The Red Devils entered the game after taking a rough loss to No. 2 ranked Kent City on Monday.

Tuesday’s matchup fared a little better for Holton as it did take a 10-7 lead into the second quarter. A 20-0 run by the Lions reversed the Red Devils momentum in the loss.

“Effort was the message all day and pregame,” said first-year Holton Coach Robert Jordan. “I am more than happy with the team that showed up tonight.”

Ryan Robins and Abby Fowler paced the Red Devils in the loss. Robins finished with six points and 10 rebounds while Fowler put up seven points and five assists.

“We played the second ranked team in Division 3 on Monday followed up by the No. 5 ranked team in Division 2 on Tuesday,” said Jordan. “That’s a tough back-to-back for anyone, so for a young team like ours, it’s a great learning experience and will only help us get better in the long run.”

Holton returns to action on Friday when it will take on Morley Stanwood.
