GRAND RAPIDS—Muskegon Community College Women’s basketball team traveled to Grand Rapids Community College on Wednesday evening and came up on the short end of a 49-47 decision to the Raiders.

The Jayhawks trailed through the entire game up until a minute left in the fourth quarter and struggled to take the lead missing a couple free throws to take the lead and then committing a foul to allow the Raiders to go back up by two.

GRCC would take the early lead and led 14-11 after the first ten minutes of play.

The Jayhawks continued to dig themselves a hole, as the Raiders took a ten point 31-21 lead into the halftime break, outscoring MCC 17-10 in the second stanza.

MCC would narrow the gap to five at 37-32, outscoring the Raiders in the third quarter 11-6.

The Jayhawks held the upper hand slightly in the final ten minutes 15-12, but could never get the momentum to take the lead.Ultimately MCC would fall to the Raiders for their second consecutive conference loss.

GRCC played really hard, dominating early. We struggled to keep up the fight and win the battle,” said Jayhawks head coach Jason Cooper.

Mariah Pringle (Brethren) led the MCC offense with a team high 16 points to go along with 6 rebounds and had 4 blocked shots. She was joined in double figures by Suzan Sisman (Marselisborg) who tossed in 10 points. Julia Tierman (Mona Shores) led the Jayhawks with 9 rebounds.

MCC falls 9-3 overall and is 3-2 in conference action. The Jayhawks will take the court again on Saturday, January 22 on the road at Lansing Community College at 1:00 pm.
