Harrison– Muskegon Community College Women’s basketball team traveled to Mid-Michigan College on Monday evening for a conference match-up.

The Jayhawks fell to the Lakers for their first conference loss 86-84.

The Jayhawks trailed through the first quarter as the Lakers held a 20-11 first quarter scoring advantage.

By halftime MCC knotted the score at 37-37 as they outscored Mid-Michigan 26-17 in the second stanza.

The Jayhawks struggled through the second half to get and maintain the lead.

Mid-Michigan’s offense put up 27 points in the third quarter while the Jayhawks managed 21 points. MCC would trail by six 64-58 entering the final ten minutes of play.

While MCC outscored the Lakers 26-22 in the fourth quarter they couldn’t overcome Mid-Michigan’s lead.

Julia Tierman (Mona Shores) led the Jayhawk offense with 22 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Joining her in double figures were Suzan Sisman (Marselisborg) who tossed in 19 points, Mariah Pringle (Brethren), chipped in with 17 points, while grabbing a team leading 9 rebounds and dishing out 4 assists and Sydney Bol (Fruitport) finished with 15 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists.

We didn’t play defense like we should have, and gave up too many points. Hopefully we learn from this and move on,” said Jayhawks head coach Jason Cooper

The Jayhawks drop to 9-2 overall and are 3-1 in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Conference. MCC will be back in action on Wednesday, January 19 when they travel to Grand Rapids Community College. Game time is set to get underway at 5:30 pm.
