NEWAYGO—The Newaygo Lions girls basketball team made quick work of visiting Central Montcalm on Friday evening by posting a 57-10 CSAA conference win.

Newaygo, which came into the game ranked sixth in the most recent Associated Press High School basketball polls in Division #2 jumped out to a 32-3 halftime lead were able to maintain the lead the rest of the way.

I thought they really responded well after our game Tuesday and really brought the energy and intensity tonight. I thought our young girls came in and played some good basketball in the second half too.”

Senior Jaxi Long led the Newaygo offensive attack with 21 points, 5 steals, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Emmerson Goodin chipped in with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 6 steals. Isabella Welch tossed in 8 points, while dishing out 4 assists and grabbing 4 rebounds.

Newaygo improves to 11-1 overall and remains perfect in the Central State Activities Association-Gold with a 6-0 record. The Lions will attempt to move closer to wrapping up another conference title this week as they hit the road on Tuesday to take on the Coyotes of Reed City and on Friday evening when they visit the Big Rapids Cardinals who currently sit in second place in the conference with a 6-2 record and a 9-4 overall record.
