MUSKEGON — A stifling defensive performance by Ludington’s girls basketball team kept the Muskegon Catholic Central offense under wraps Friday night as the Orioles rolled to a 53-17 victory in the Lakes 8 Activities Conference contest at Muskegon.
The Orioles stepped out to a 15-2 lead at the end of the first quarter, and outscored the Crusaders, 13-3 in the second to spring into the halftime break with a 28-5 lead.
Ludington had a 14-8 advantage in the third period and took the floor for the fourth period with a 42-13 lead. The Orioles outscored the Crusaders, 11-4 in the final eight minutes.
Keelyn Laird scored 12 points to lead the Orioles. She was followed by RyAnn Rohrer with eight points, while Olivia Lynn and Rylee Stone each added seven.
Stanforth and Abanese each scored four points for the Crusaders.
Ludington improved its record to 6-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference with its third straight win. The Orioles are next scheduled to play host to Mason County Central on Tuesday, Jan. 17.
Muskegon Catholic saw its two-game winning streak snapped with the loss, and the Crusaders fell to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference. The Crusaders are scheduled to play host to Ravenna on Tuesday, Jan. 18.
