The Montague wrestling team battled at the Lloyd Logswell Invite on Saturday falling just short of the top spot finishing as runner up.

Four of the Wildcat boys won out in their weight class. Chris Aebig at 125 pounds, Landen Askins at 130 pounds, Cale Coppess at 135 pounds and Tristan Winkleblack at 145 pounds. Michael Moore finished runner up at 152 pounds.

Taking fourth place for the Wildcats were Jimmy Thommen at 103 pounds, Ethan Hite at 112 pounds, Andy Hernandez at 160 pounds and Logan Kahl at 171 pounds.

It was great to get almost every guy on the podium,” said Coach Kristoffer Maddox. “Really proud of the improvements we made today.”

The girls squad had an excellent showing at Grand Haven with Ava Pelton and Savannah Winkleblack ended the day as champions while Emma Pendell, Abby Dyer and Abby Thommen finished at second place. Also, Presley Davis earned a third place finish.

The girls are starting to settle in and find their style. They too are starting to wrestle to their potential,” said Maddox.

Montague will be back to the mats on Wednesday when they visit Oakridge to take on Whitehall, Muskegon and the Eagles.
