MUSKEGON — A big first quarter got the Oakridge boys basketball team off to a fast start, and sent the Eagles on their way to a 54-46 West Michigan Conference victory over Mason County Central at home Tuesday night.

The Eagles opened up a 20-6 lead after the first quarter. Scoring slacked off in the second, as the two teams combined for just 13 points, but the Eagles had the 7-6 edge to build a 27-12 halftime edge.

Scoring picked up again in the third period, and the Eagles again outscored the Spartans, 18-16 to head into the fourth quarter with a 45-28 lead. The Spartans outscored the Eagles, 18-9 but it was not enough.

Garrett Wever scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Eagles. Ethan Jozsa was the only other Eagle in double figures with 13. Hunter Delora added nine and Peyton Ruel seven.

Jozsa had 10 rebounds and Wever nine. Ruel dished out seven assists and Wever four. Ruel picked off five steals and Cribbins three.

Will Chye led the Spartans with 19 points, while Jayden Perrone and Kolden Myer each had 10.

North Muskegon improved to 4-3 and will play at Ravenna on Friday. The Spartans dropped to 1-4 and return home Friday for a game with Shelby.
