MUSKEGON — Orchard View’s boys basketball team ran into a hot shooting Grand Rapids Covenant Christian on Tuesday night and wound up losing, 79-49 in the non-conference game.

The Cardinals managed to keep the game relatively close throughout the first half, trailing 18-10 at the end of the first quarter and 35-24 at the break.

But Covenant Christian steadily pulled away in the second half, building a 56-35 cushion at the end of the third period. Covenant Christian outscored the Cardinals, 23-11 in the fourth quarter.

Orchard View senior Darius Williams pumped in 24 points to lead the Cardinals in scoring, and he added seven assists, five rebounds and two steals.

Keith McAlister, a sophomore, followed Williams in scoring, knocking down six 3-point shots to finish with 17 points.

With their third straight loss, the Cardinals saw their season record fall to 2-5 overall. Orchard View is scheduled to play at Manistee on Friday in a Lakes 8 Activities Conference game.
