SCOTTVILLE — Mason County Central’s girls basketball team started the game strong and never let up, recording a 58-22 victory over North Muskegon in the West Michigan Conference at home Friday night.

The Spartans grabbed a 13-5 lead at the end of the first quarter, and outscored North Muskegon, 16-11 in the second to build a 13-point cushion, 29-16 at the half.

Mason County put the defensive clamps down completely in the second half, outscoring North Muskegon, 15-6 in the third for a 44-22 lead going into the fourth quarter. The Spartans shut out North Muskegon in the final stanza, 14-0.

Wren Nelson led the Spartans with 15 points and nine rebounds. Adria Quigley contributed 14 points and picked off four steals, while Ashlyn McKay added eight points.

The Spartans improved their record to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the conference with their fourth straight win. They are scheduled to play at Ludington on Monday, Jan. 17.

North Muskegon fell to 1-7 and 0-6, respectively, with its sixth consecutive loss. It is next scheduled to play host to Muskegon Heights on Monday, Jan. 17.
