REMUS — Mason County Central’s wrestling team defeated both of its opponents at the Chippewas Hills quad on Thursday night, topping Alpena, 36-21 and beating Cadillac, 48-36.

The Spartans had six grapplers finish 2-0 on the day, including freshman 103-pounder Nyvaeh Wendt, freshman 112-pounder Hunter Sanford, senior 125-pounder Jacob Maidens, sophomore 125-pounder Zane McCabe, senior 140-pounder Carter Hirschfield and senior heavyweight Andrew Quinn.

“Nyvaeh wrestled real well, and really started hitting the techniques we have been working on in practice,” Spartans head coach Trim Kendel.

“Carter; Hirschfield made his first appearance of the season and looked real sharp. He is fast, and fun to watch. We are glad to have him back on the mat.

“Everyone wrestled well, and it was a good team effort.”

The Spartans also had sophomore 119-pounder Aiden Hirschfield and senior 189-pounder Raiden Keefer pick up wins on the night.
