RAVENNA — Mason County Central’s wrestling team swept both of its matches in a quad at Ravenna on Wednesday night, beating Ravenna, 51-24 and holding off Shelby, 45-36.

“As a whole, this was probably the best we have wrestled so far,” said Spartans coach Trim Kendel.

“We had a lot of good performances.

“We looked sharp, and had a lot of kids hitting a wide variety of techniques. I was real happy with how everyone wrestled.”

Spartans who picked up two wins on the night included freshman Hunter Sanford at 112 pounds, senior Jacob Maidens at 125, sophomore Zane McCabe at 125, freshman Colton Kirchner at 135, senior Carter Hirschfeld at 140, senior Raiden Keefer at 189 and senior Andrew Quinn at 275.

Also winning matches were freshman Nyvaeh Wendt at 103 and sophomore Aiden Hirschfeld at 119.

“We wrestled tough tonight,” Kendel added. “We are at a good spot for this point in the season. This time can be a lull in a long varsity season, but we looked great tonight, and hopefully we can keep it going.”

The Spartans are scheduled to wrestle at Carson City this Saturday, Jan. 15.
