ALLENDALE — It’s always tough to win on the road. But, the Spring Lake girls basketball team had to work especially hard to get this one Tuesday night.

The Lakers found themselves needing double overtime with Allendale to prevail, 65-58 and remain undefeated in the OK Blue Conference at 2-0, while they boosted their overall record to 5-2.

Spring Lake trailed, 9-7 after the first quarter before the Falcons had a big second quarter, outscoring the Lakers, 20-12 and opened up a 10-point lead, 29-19 at the half.

But, the Lakers rebounded in the third quarter and outscored the Falcons, 15-5 and forged a 34-34 tie going into the fourth quarter. Both teams scored 13 points in the last period and ended regulation tied, 47-47. It was 55-55 at the end of the first overtime.

Three players scored in double figures for the Lakers, with Jennifer Judge leading the way with 17 points, followed by Meah Bajt with 16 and Ella Andree with 11.

Judge and Alexa Carter led the Lakers with 10 rebounds each, while Bajt grabbed eight boards and Eryn Bouwhuis had six. Judge, Bajt and Andree each had three assists.

Allendale’s Hannah Schroeder led all scorers with 26 points.

Spring Lake is on the road again Friday, Jan. 14 when the Lakers take on Holland Christian.
