Using a well timed second half comeback and a stellar showing by the young freshman, Cam Thompson, the Whitehall boys basketball team got by the Hart Pirates in a high scoring showdown by a score of 80-70 on Friday evening.

The pace was set early with both teams bringing pressure in attempts to stifle the offense. 

The Vikings trailed slightly at 41-35 after two quarters but after there halftime Whitehall came out firing on all cylinders to help propel the Vikings into a five point lead after three quarters 54-49.

Whitehall would cash in at the free throw line in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

In Thompson’s second game ever on the varsity team he recorded a double-double having racked up 27 points, 13 rebounds and six assists. Also hitting double digits for the Vikings were Jack Houtteman who tossed in 15 points and pulled down four rebounds while Isaac DeHart chipped in with 16 points.

Brodie Fogus grabbed 10 rebounds.

Despite the loss, Parker Hovey played excellent for the Pirates leading Hart with 27 points, six rebounds and four assists while Diego Escamilla tossed in 22 points for Hart.

Whitehall moves to 4-3 and will travel to Oakridge on Thursday.

Hart drops to 2-2 and will travel to Kent City on Tuesday.
