The Whitehall girls basketball team use a strong first quarter to build a commanding lead to take down the Ravenna Bulldogs in a 41-29 West Michigan Conference win on Tuesday night.

The Vikings took off on a 13-4 scoring run to establish some distance from the Bulldogs and that proved to be critical.

Although the Bulldogs turned it up in the second quarter, the Vikings stayed a step ahead and owned the halftime lead with a score of 23-15.

Again setting the pace, the Vikings outscored the Bulldogs 9-5 in the third to grow their lead to 32-20 with only one quarter left to play. Both teams broke even on scoring in the fourth quarter with each putting up nine points.

Charley Klint led for the Vikings with 19 points and seven rebounds while Onnyka Dempsey posted eight points and grabbed five steals. Chipping in eight second-half points for the Vikings was Lola Buckner.

Doing major work for Ravenna was Madeline Kilbourne who produced 12 points, five rebounds and three steals while Emma Gillard grabbed 10 rebounds, scored eight points, made three assists and snagged three steals.

Whitehall moves to 5-8 and 4-4 in the WMC. The Vikings will be at North Muskegon on Friday.

Ravenna slumps to 3-7 and is set to play host for the Hart Pirates on Friday.
