Hart Wrestling Results

BENZONIA — Hart’s wrestling team competed at the Benzie Central Super Duels on Saturday at Benzie Central and went 3-1 on the day to finished second overall.

The Pirates opened their competition against No. 7 Kingsley and lost, 44-21. But they were unbeatable after that.

In succession, the Pirates defeated Gladstone (42-35), Gladwin (72-5) and Kalkaska (72-10).

Highlights for the Pirates included Jose Chaviro, Mason Cantu, Leo Guadarrama and Jon Ponce who all finished undefeated for the day.

Bryce Jorissen, JoseLuis Andaverde, Guillermo Ortega and Zane Thomas all went 4-1.

The Pirates are next scheduled to compete in a quad at Whitehall on Wednesday, Jan. 19.

Fremont Wrestling Results

FREMONT — Fremont’s wrestling team chalked up two more victories against CSAA teams Friday night at home when it dispatched Chippewa Hills and Newaygo on Parents’ Night.

The Packers began the night taking on the Warriors of Chippewa Hills, and quickly warmed up their fans with a convincing 45-27 triumph.

Individual wins for the Packers were recorded by Trey Myers, Kaiye Miron, Michael Romero,, Colby Wright, Killian Prewitt, Elias Bowen, RJ Thome, Tee Ward and Wei Chen.

Next up was Newaygo, and the Packers dominated the Lions for a 72-6 win. Alex Gleason set the tone for the Packers with a pin at 160 pounds.

That was followed by another pin, this one recorded by Dennis Halasinski, while Michael Romero won at 189 pounds and Aiden DeWeerdt won by a fall at 215.

Wrestling at heavyweight, Briar Harmbrock notched another pin for the Packers and Killian Prewitt also had a pin at 112 pounds. Chase Montague won at 103.

Also winning by pins for the Packers were Bowen, Thome, Braulio Gomez and Myers. Ward and Romero each won by a margin of 15 points for technical falls.

Fremont improved its record to 13-3 and are off now until it competes in a quad at Whitehall against the Vikings and Grant on Wednesday, Jan. 26.

Mason County Central Results

CARSON CITY — Mason County Central’s wrestling team was fourth at the Carson City-Crystal team tournament on Saturday, highlighted by Carter Hirschfeld going 5-0 and notching his 100th career victory.

The Spartans defeated Carson City, 57-24 and Leslie, 60-12, while losing to Comstock Park (49-24), Pine River (39-36) and Lainsburg (48-35).

“Carter wrestled real tough today,” Spartans head coach Trim Kendel said. “He has solidified himself back in our lineup and it makes a big difference.

“That one extra wrestler pulls us into so many more dual meets, and that really helps when it is a wrestler the caliber of Carter.”

Also finishing 5-0 on the day for the Spartans were senior heavyweight Andrew Quinn, who is undefeated at 32-0 on the season.

Nyvaeh Wendt, a freshman at 103 pounds, and freshman Hunter Sanford went 5-0 at 112 pounds.

Finishing the day 4-1 for the Spartans were sophomore 125-pounder Zane McCabe, and freshman 135-pounder Colter Kirchner. Jacob Maidens went 3-2.

The Spartans are next scheduled to see action on Wednesday, Jan. 19 at Whitehall.
