KENT CITY—The No. 2 ranked, Division 3 Kent City Eagles girls basketball team continued to roll on Tuesday evening with a convincing 43-23 win over the Sparta Spartans.

The Spartans couldn’t stop the one-two punch of Lexie Bowers and teammate Maddie Geers who each scored a game high 18 points respectively for Kent City.

Bowers and Geers each finished with a team high 7 rebounds. Bowers came up with 3 steals to go along with 3 assists. Geers finished with 4 blocked shots.

The high flying Kent City offense jumped out to a 16-6 lead after the first eight minutes of action.

Sparta would narrow the lead to 25-16 by halftime, outscoring Kent City 10-9 in the second stanza.

The Eagles defense tightened the clamps on the Sparta offense in the third quarter, holding the Spartans to two points while only scoring eight points themselves to take a comfortable 33-18 lead into the fourth quarter.

Kent City increased there lead and the Eagle defense continued to hold the Spartan offense in check with a 10-5 scoring advantage in the final eight minutes

I’m very proud of how we played. Sparta is a talented team that plays tough defense and pushes the pace of the game” said first year Kent City head coach Aleah Holcomb.

We stepped up tonight and took control of the game early by being aggressive and playing with intensity every possession. We handled their pressure and were able to knock down tough shots.”

Kent City improves to 14-0 overall and is on top of the Central State Activities Association-Silver with a 6-0 record. The Eagles will look to move one step closer to wrapping up a league championship on Friday when they host conference foe Morley-Stanwood who comes in trailing the Eagles by one game in league action.
