MUSKEGON — Western Michigan Christian’s girls basketball team posted its third straight win Friday night with a 69-18 victory over Orchard View at OV in the Lakes 8 Activities Conference.
Kate Derdowski returned to the lineup after being sidelined more than a month with an injury.
“I am proud of her resolve, and what she adds to the team,” said Warriors head coach Jeremy Goorman. “She scored eight points and added energy to the team.
“The team is really playing unselfish basketball, and it shows with 17 assists (tonight).”
Kyla Wiersema exploded for 29 points to lead the Warriors, and she also hauled down 10 rebounds. Maddie Wiersema added 14 points and led with 12 rebounds. Ashley Folkema dished out seven assists.
“Kyla and Maddie continue to dominate,” Goorman added. “We are working with them to stay out of foul trouble.”
WMC took a 34-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and outscored the Cardinals, 14-3 in the second to build a 48-10 halftime cushion.
The Warriors outscored the Cardinals, 11-8 in the third period and led, 59-18 going into the fourth quarter. WMC shut out the Cardinals, 10-0 in the final period.
WMC improved to 12-4 overall and 7-1 in the conference with its third straight win. The Warriors are next scheduled to see action Wednesday, Feb. 23 at Oakridge.
Orchard View fell to 1-17 overall and 0-9 in the conference. The Cardinals are next scheduled to see action Tuesday, Feb. 22 with a non-league game at Walkerville.
