MUSKEGON–Joseph Hayes poured in 27 points and grabbed 20 rebounds on Wednesday and led the Shelby Tigers to a 65-47 victory over the Orchard View Cardinals in a boys nonleague basketball game.

Shelby came out strong and raced to an 18-8 lead in the opening quarter. That energy continued in the second quarter as the Tigers raced to a 40-19 lead at the half.

Orchard View put up 21 points in the third quarter on the strength of five 3-pointers and cut the lead to 54-40 heading into the final quarter.

The Tigers finished off the game with a solid fourth quarter and cruised to the victory.

Bishop Lee added 23 points and eight rebounds for Shelby while Mason Garcia had eight assists. Shelby had a season-high 17 assists.

Darius Williams scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Cardinals. He also chipped in eight rebounds, six assists and four steals.

Shelby improves its record to 11-6 and remains 8-5 in the West Michigan Conference. The Tigers travel to Ravenna on Friday.

Orchard View falls to 3-13 overall and remains 1-8 in the Lakes 8. On Friday, the Cardinals host Manistee in a league matchup.
