MORLEY — Hesperia’s girls basketball team couldn’t recover from a bad start and dropped a 48-22 decision to Morley-Stanwood on the road Friday night in the Central State Activities Association-Silver.
The Lady Panthers found themselves in a deep hole after the first quarter, trailing by 16 points, 19-3 after one. Hesperia picked things up in the second, outscoring Stanwood, 10-7 in the second, but still trailed, 26-13 at the half.
Hesperia again hit an offensive slump in the third period, and was outscored, 20-2 to fall further behind, 46-15 going into the fourth quarter. The Lady Panthers had a 7-2 edge in the final eight minutes.
Emmet Tinkham led the Lady Panthers with 14 points and she hauled down 14 rebounds in a solid game. Emma Joppich had nine rebounds.
The Lady Panthers saw their record slide to 2-13 overall and 0-9 in the conference. Hesperia is next scheduled to see action Thursday, Feb. 24 at Fruitport Calvary Christian.
