KENT CITY–Kent City battled to the final buzzer but came up just short 64-57 in an overtime loss to Montabella.

The Eagles exploded out of the first half gates and led 22-10 at the end of the first quarter and 35-22 at halftime.

The Eagles cooled off in the second half and the Mustangs caught fire as the lead was trimmed to four, 44-40 at the end of the third quarter. The score at the end of regulation was even at 51.

The Eagles offensive attack was well balanced on the evening as three players scored in double digits. The leading scorer was Kyler Larson with 14 points. Jaret Jaramillo and Carter Magoon each performed well with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Head coach David Ingles after the game said, “I don’t think our focus was anywhere near where it needed to be. Sometimes it’s hard to refocus after a big win, we need to figure it out for Friday.”

Kent City falls to 12-5 overall while Montabella improves to 16-1. The Eagles will host White Cloud on Friday.
