KENT CITY—It was tough sledding from an offensive standpoint for Kent City on Tuesday evening as they fell to the Sparta Spartans 53-41.

Sparta got out of the gate fast as they jumped out to a 20-10 lead after the first eight minutes of action.

“Came out absolutely flat! Laid an egg in the first quarter,” said Kent City head coach David Ingles.

Both offenses struggled mightily in the second stanza as each team managed only 3-second quarter points, which led to a Kent City halftime deficit of 23-13.

The tempo picked up in the third quarter, however Sparta still held the upper hand 12-8 and led 35-21 going into the fourth quarter.

The offense picked up for both teams in the final eight minutes, which saw the Eagles outscore the Spartans 20-18 but still fell short by a dozen points to Sparta.

“Shots would not fall tonight. We missed several layups and other shots we normally make. After the first quarter our defense was pretty good but the offense failed us,” said Ingles.

Kyler Larson led the Kent City offense with a team high 17 points while Hayden Carlson tossed in 10 points.

Kent City falls to 8-4 overall and is 5-1 in the CSAA-Silver.

The Eagles will host the Morley-Stanwood Mohawks on Friday evening in conference action.
