KENT CITY — Kent City’s girls basketball team took control right from the start, shutting out Holton in the first quarter and rolling to a 59-23 victory Friday night in the Central State Activities Association-Silver.

Coming into the game ranked No. 2 in Division 3, the Eagles remained unbeaten in the conference.

After shutting down the Red Devils offense for a 16-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Eagles went into the half with a 29-12 lead. It was 40-19 after three.

Lexie Bowers paced the Eagles with 15 points, nine assists, eight steals and four rebounds. Maddie Geers contributed 14 points, seven rebounds and two assists.

Taryn Preston added 11 points, three rebounds and three steals. Abby Pecynski had seven points and seven rebounds. Emma Geers didn’t play to rest a bad knee until the post-season.

Ryann Robbins scored 10 points for the Red Devils.

Kent City improved to 18-0 overall and 9-0 in the conference. The Eagles are next scheduled to see action Wednesday, Feb. 23 at Grand Rapids West Michigan Aviation Academy.

Holton fell to 11-7 overall and 5-4 in the conference with its second straight loss. The Red Devils are next scheduled to see action Tuesday, Feb. 22 at home against Fruitport Calvary Christian.
