MUSKEGON — Leading by three at the end of the third quarter, the Muskegon Lady Big Reds stalled out in the fourth quarter and scored just one point to end up losing, 43-37 to Grand Rapids Kenowa Hills on Monday night in the MHSAA Division 1 district opener at home.

Kenowa Hills jumped out to a 13-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Big Reds bounced back, however, to outscore the Lady Knights, 18-12 and pull into a 25-25 tie at halftime.  

Muskegon then continued its surge in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Knights, 11-9 to take a 36-33 lead into the fourth quarter. But the Lady Knights outscored Muskegon, 10-1 in the final eight minutes.  

Layla Harris scored 10 points and had five rebounds for the Lady Big Reds. McKynna Sims knocked down a pair of 3-point shots in the first quarter and scored six.

JaMya Robinson finished with five and nine rebounds. Sims had two steals and three assists.  

Muskegon concluded the season 11-9.
