MUSKEGON–Wrapping up the regular season the 11th ranked Muskegon Community College wrestling team had a successful day on Sunday hosting the Jayhawks Open and crowning four champions of their own.
Back in action after being sidelined by injury Alex Cantu won at 125 pounds with a 47 second fall while Julian Jimenez had a 14-5 decision to win at 157 pounds. Bronson Jewell pinned his way to a championship at 184 pounds and continuing his hot streak Kayleb Venema improved to 25-2 as he battled through the bracket to win at 197 pounds.
Also placing for the Jayhawks was Alex Trim who placed second at 285 pounds, Jacob Blawat took third at 141 pounds and Paulo Dragin who finished in third at 165 pounds.
“We wrestled well today and had no significant injuries. That makes for a good day as we head into the Great Lakes District in a couple weeks,” said Coach Mark Brunger.
MCC will have some time to prepare as they get ready for the Great Lakes District National Qualifier at St. Clair Community College on Saturday February 19th.
