MUSKEGONStruggling to finish key baskets and make crucial stops down the stretch the Mona Shores boys basketball team suffered a tough loss to O-K Green Conference rival the Zeeland West Dux losing by a score of 51-43 on Tuesday evening.

The Sailors fell behind early as they trailed 14-11 after the first quarter of play.

After some time of warming up the Sailors found an advantage outscoring the Dux 13-11 in the second quarter to cut the deficit to just one point by the halftime intermission 25-24.

The halftime break broke up the cycle for the Sailors again falling further behind as the Dux pulled away on a third quarter 18-12 scoring run to deepen the hole and put Zeeland West up 43-36 going into the fourth quarter.

The offensive production dwindled in the final quarter with both teams putting up little points but for every point the Sailors put up the Dux had an answer and then some to put the game out of reach for Mona Shores.

Despite the loss Parker Swartz found some success as he led Mona Shores with 20 points while also pulling down six rebounds. Donovan Russell posted a career high 17 points and eight rebounds for the Sailors.

Mona Shores falls to 7-8 overall and 4-5 in the conference. The Sailors will be back to league action on Friday when they travel to battle the Chix of Zeeland East.
