MUSKEGON — The second and third quarters helped propel the Montague boys basketball team to a 66-47 victory over Orchard View on the road Tuesday for the Wildcats’ fourth straight win.

Orchard View opened the game by managing a 13-11 first quarter, but then the Wildcats outscored the Cardinals, 21-8 in the second period to open up a substantial 32-19 halftime cushion.

The Wildcats continued to build on their lead, outscoring the Cardinals, 26-9 in the third quarter and took the floor for the fourth quarter with a whopping 58-28 advantage. OV won the fourth period, 19-8.

Montague was led in scoring by Owen Raeth with 11 points including two 3-point makes, and Isaiah Atchison with 10. DaCarri Williams and Paul Olson each added eight. Williams knocked down two 3-point attempts.

The Wildcats shot 44.1 percent from the field on 28 of 59 makes on the night, including 7 of 20 from 3-point range. Montague was 7 of 9 from the free throw line.

Atchison led the Wildcats in rebounding with nine, followed by Raeth with seven, Braden Johnson six, Owen Peterson five, Tugg Nichols five and Paul Olson five. Nichols also had three assists, while Raeth and Johnson each had two. Tate Stine dished out four assists, Atchison three and Nichols three apiece.

Sophomore Keith McAlister paced the Cardinals with 19 points, including three 3-point makes. Darius Williams followed 14 points, dished out five assists and grabbed seven rebounds. Fellow sophomore Delaney Oakes had nine points on three 3-point makes.

Orchard View saw its record drop to 3-10 for the season and will next be in action on the road Friday at Ludington.

Montague bumped its record up to 9-4 and next is scheduled to see action on Thursday hosting Whitehall.
