MUSKEGON — It was a one possession game with 30 seconds left in regulation for Muskegon Catholic Central’s boys basketball team, but the Crusaders couldn’t get a 3-point shot to fall in a 51-44 loss to Muskegon Heights.

Muskegon Heights jumped out to a 17-8 first-quarter lead, but the Crusaders rallied for a 15-10 edge in the second to close the gap to, 27-23 at the half.  

The Tigers managed to fight off the Crusaders for an 8-6 advantage in the third period, and took the floor for the final quarter with a 35-29 lead.  

But the Crusaders refused to give up, and had a chance for the win at the end.  

Chase Willer had a big game off the bench for the Crusaders with 12 points to lead them in scoring. Tramel Caviness attacked the basket and finished with eight and Elliott Riegler led the defense with four steals.  

The Crusaders fall to 4-10 overall and 3-5 in the Lakes 8, and will next be in action Friday at home against Ludington.  

Muskegon Heights improved to 8-5 overall and 6-2 in the conference. The Tigers are next scheduled to see action Friday at Manistee.
