HOWARD CITY– The Newaygo Lions girls basketball team clinched at least a share of the Central State Activities Association-Gold title on Tuesday evening with a solid 70-30 road win at Tri-County.

As has been the case all season, Newaygo seniors Jaxi Long and Emmerson Goodin led the Lions offensive attack. Long had a game high 25 points, to go with five rebounds and five assists. Goodin canned 15 points, had six steals and six rebounds. Joining them in double digits was Kayla Fisk with 14 points, while hauling down eight rebounds.

Newaygo was up 45-20 at halftime and was able to cruise along to secure the win.

“Girls played really well. Great team victory,” said Newaygo head coach Nate Thomasma

Newaygo improves to 16-1 overall and is 11-0 in the CSAA-Gold. The Lions, hope to clinch the CSAA-Gold outright when they travel to Grant on Friday evening to take on the Tigers.
