NEWAYGO—The Newaygo Lions moved one step closer to clinching another CSAA-Gold title as they cruised past Chippewa Hills on Tuesday evening 59-29.

Emmerson Goodin led the Lions with 24 points, 14 rebounds and 5 steals. Jaxi Long had 18 (6 three pointers in the first half) 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Grace Painter had 6 points and 4 rebounds.

Newaygo was up 31-8 after the first quarter and 44-10 at halftime and was able to cruise the rest of the way.

“Great start by the girls tonight. I thought we came out with great intensity and set the tone early,” said Newaygo head coach Nate Thomasma.

Emmerson played a great game tonight. She has a great motor and good instincts. She has over 800 points and 600 rebounds in her career. Jaxi had 5 three’s in the first quarter. She was really locked in early,” Thomasma said.

Newaygo improves to 14-1 overall and is 9-0 in the CSAA-Gold. The Lions will host Fremont on Friday evening.
