LUDINGTON — A dominant first quarter propelled the Ludington boys basketball team past Heights, 59-36 on Friday night at home in the Lakes 8 Activities Conference.

The Orioles led by 11 points, 19-8 at the end of the first quarter. Heights came back for an 11-4 advantage in the second, leaving the Orioles holding a 23-19 lead at the half.

Heights couldn’t keep up with Ludington in the second half, as the Orioles outscored the Tigers, 20-9 in the third period and went into the fourth quarter leading, 43-28. Ludington outscored Heights, 16-8 in the final eight minutes.

Peyton LaCombe paced the Orioles with 14 points and he also hauled down 11 rebounds. David Shillinger contributed 12 points and Aiden Gilchrist had 10.

Heights was led by Jakari Edwards with 11 points.

Ludington improves to 11-7 overall and finished 10-0 in the conference. The Orioles are next scheduled to see action at Mason County Central on Thursday night.

The loss snapped Heights four-game winning streak. Heights finished 11-6 overall and  7-3 in the league.
