MUSKEGON HEIGHTS–The back-and-forth battle between Muskegon Heights and Western Michigan Christian ended in a thriller as Owen Varnado powered the Warriors to a 51-50 victory on his game winner.

Muskegon Heights last beat WMC by 41 at the Warriors home gym.

The resilient Warriors came out on top this time at Muskegon Heights. The game was a dogfight from beginning to end as WMC led 18-15 at halftime.

Owen Varnado finished with 22 points and 19 rebounds. Meanwhile, Sam Liggett added 11 points while Joe Waller tacked on eight points and seven rebounds.

After the game, Coach Kurt Gruppen said, “I was really proud of how so many guys stepped up tonight down the stretch. Joe Waller had some huge baskets and so did Eli Malek. Sam Liggett and Jared Olsen both made clutch 3-point shots in the 4th quarter as well”.

The Warriors improved to 3-7 overall and get a much-needed win to go to 3-3 in conference play. WMC will be in action today (Saturday) against Spring Lake on the road.

Muskegon Heights drops to 7-4 and 4-2 in the conference. The Tigers will travel to Kalamazoo Phoenix next Tuesday.
