MESICK — It wasn’t the kind of finish Pentwater’s girls basketball team wanted as it heads into the post-season, as the Falcons dropped a 40-28 loss to Mesick on the road Friday night in the Western Michigan D League.

Pentwater started out on a positive note, outscoring the Bulldogs by a slim 10-7 margin after the first quarter. But the Bulldogs bounced back with a 14-5 second period, and took a 21-15 lead at the half.

The Falcons fought hard to get back in the game, but could only take an 11-10 edge at the end of the third quarter which left them trailing, 32-25 going into the fourth period. Mesick outscored the Falcons, 8-3 in the final period.

“All season it seemed we could never really find our stride,” said Pentwater coach Joe Gorton. “We couldn’t fill our roster with healthy players, either.

“We were short a starter against Mesick, too. But, my girls came out fighting.”

Jocelyn Richison and Haidyn Adams each scored seven points to lead the Falcons. Richison had three assists. MacKenna Hasil contributed six points and picked off three steals, and Maren Martinsen grabbed seven rebounds.

Pentwater fell to 3-14 overall and finished 3-12 in the league. The Falcons now open play in the MHSAA Division 4 district in Marion on Monday night against Walkerville.
