The Reeths-Puffer girls basketball team found themselves on the winning end of a 50-45 tug-of-war battle against host Muskegon on Tuesday evening in O-K Green Conference action.

The Rockets jumped out front first as they outscored the Big Reds 10-6 after the first eight minutes of play.

The Big Reds flipped the advantage in the second quarter, running into halftime with a 18-15 lead.

The Rockets came out with a new intensity in the second half, taking a 33-32 lead at the end of the third quarter.

The final stanza was far from a slam dunk as the Big Reds continued to fight, making the Rockets earn their points. The Rockets found the upper hand with a 17-13 scoring run to close out the game.

Arionna Williams lead the way for Reeths-Puffer with 19 points and two rebounds while Sophia Hekkema added a full stat line with 13 points, six rebounds, five steals and four assists.

Also pulling some weight for the Rockets was Brooklyn Tornes who chipped in seven points and pulled down six rebounds and Ariel Walker with seven points and two assists.

Making a valiant effort for the Big Reds despite the loss was Jamya Robinson who posted 15 points and three rebounds while Layla Harris and Alayna Hussey threw in nine and seven points, respectively.

Reeths-Puffer climbs to 13-5 on the season and 10-3 in the league. The Rockets are set for more conference play on Friday when they play host to Grand Rapids Union.

Muskegon falls to 11-7 with a 10-3 record in the conference and will travel Zeeland East on Friday for another league showdown.
