CHARLEVOIX–Mason County Central is sending three wrestlers to the MHSAA Division 3 state finals next month, including two regional champions, while Hart crowned two regional champions and qualified two others for the finals and Shelby had two qualifiers.

Spartan senior Andrew Quinn at 285 pounds, freshman Hunter Sandford at 112 both won individual titles at the Charlevoix regional, while sophomore Zane McCabe was fourth at 125

Quinn defeated Matthias Miller of Newberry by a pin in 1:31 to come away with the regional title. He improved his record to 48-1 on the season.

“This was a good weekend for Andrew,” said Spartans head coach Trim Kendel. “He has two state medals, but this was his first regional title, so it was special.

“We have a lot of momentum going one way to take into the finals in March.”

Sanford pinned Tyler Demory of Mio in 2:32 for the regional title. He bumped his record to 45-4 on the season.

“This was a great comeback match,” Kendel said. “We lost to Demory last week at districts, but we talked all week about if we opened up and turned up the aggression, we would be able to win that match. He did, and it worked out.”
