The first time the Jayhawks and Jets met back on January 15, MCC dealt Jackson a 65-62 defeat.
The Jayhawks came ready to play Saturday afternoon knowing that the Jets were going to be out for revenge.
The Lady Jayhawks jumped out to a quick lead putting the Jets away early with a first quarter lead of 23-6. The Jayhawks headed into the half leading 45-26, but stayed focused knowing Jackson was going to come on strong in the second half. MCC held a slim scoring advantage in the second stanza 22-20
The Jayhawks came out of halftime still focused and were able to maintain their lead throughout the second half, outscoring the Jets by slim identical margins 17-16 in each the third and fourth quarters.
“We started out strong in the 1st-quarter with a great lead. Our defense and focus were able to maintain the lead throughout the game. It was a good win for us leading into a tough week,” said Jayhawks head coach Jason Cooper
Suzan Sisman (Marselisborg) led the Jayhawks offensive attack with a team high 21 points and four rebounds. Mariah Pringle (Brethren) was right behind her with 20 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots. Also in double digits were Calla Miller (Fremont) who tossed in 12 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists while Karleigh Jeffries (Whitehall) also chipped in with 12 points and 11 rebounds
The Jayhawks improve their overall record to 17-4 and are 11-3 in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association. Muskegon Community College will take the court again on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at home against Grand Rapids Community College at 5:30 pm.
