MUSKEGON—The Muskegon Community College Women’s Basketball program hosted Lansing Community College on Saturday and posted a convincing 86-49 win over the Stars.

Six Lady Jayhawks hit for double digits in the scoring department.

Muskegon Community College made quick work of the visitors from Lansing, racking up scoring advantages in the first quarter 19-2 and the second stanza 19-4 to take an overwhelming 38-6 halftime lead.

The Jayhawks had a little bit of a slower third quarter as the Stars outscored MCC 24-20 during those ten minutes.

MCC racked up a 28-19 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter to come away with the 37 point win.

“Great team defense in the first half, which was the difference of the game,” said Jayhawk coach Jason Cooper.

A trio of Jayhawks led the scoring attack including Julia Tierman (Mona Shores) with 13 points and five assists. Mariah Pringle (Brethrenscored 13 points, grabbed five rebounds, had three assists and Karleigh Jeffries (Whitehall) tossed in 13 points, to go with four rebounds. Calla Miller (Fremontchipped in with 12 points and six rebounds while Suzan Sisman (Marselisborgtossed in 11 points. Trina Lewis (Reeths-Pufferhad a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Muskegon Community College improves to 19-4 overall and is 13-3 in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association. The Jayhawks will take the court again tonight, Monday, Feb. 21 at Kalamazoo Valley Community College at 5:30 pm.
