SCOTTVILLE — Mason County Central’s girls basketball team won its fourth straight game Friday night with a 36-16 victory over Ravenna at home in the West Michigan Conference.

“We came out really focused on defense,” Spartans head coach Mike Weinert said. “I was proud of the girls defensive intensity and team effort, especially in the first half.

“Ravenna took their opportunities in the second half, but that first half lead really was the cushion we needed. We continue to play good defense.”

The Spartans kept the Bulldogs scoreless in the first half en route to a 22-0 lead. Ravenna recovered some in the second half, outscoring the Spartans, 7-4 n the third quarter to make it 26-7 going into the fourth quarter. The Spartans had a 10-9 edge in the final stanza.

Mallory Miller and Wren Nelson each scored eight points to lead the Spartans, while Grace Weinert added six.

The Spartans improved their record to 10-5 overall, and 7-4 in the conference. Mason County has a makeup game scheduled with Ravenna on the road Monday, Feb. 14.
