GRAND RAPIDS–Faced with a formidable opponent in Grand Rapids West Catholic to close out their OK Conference-Blue season the Falcons hit some crucial free throws down the stretch and handed Spring Lake a 55-43 loss.

The visiting Lakers were slow to start as they allowed six three-pointers and fell behind 20-11 after the opeing eight minutes of play.

Spring Lake didn’t give in and clawed their way back to pull out in front for the first time in the game as they outscored the Falcons 13-3 in the second stanza to go into the half-time break with a 24-23 lead.

The Falcons regained control in the third period with a 12-7 scoring advantage and carried a 35-31 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Lakers stayed within striking distance but West Catholic hit enough free throws in the fourth quarter to secure the 12 point win.

Kaden George led the Spring Lake offense with 13 points and Porter Saunders tossed in 11 points. Evan McDermott chipped in with eight points while Jackson Core pulled down seven rebounds, scoring six points and dishing out three assists.

Spring Lake falls to 8-11 overall with a 5-9 record in league play. The Lakers will travel to Reeths-Puffer on Thursday, March 3 to close out the season against the Rockets.
