SPRING LAKE — After a 36-minute, back and forth game Wednesday night the Spring Lake girls basketball team fell, 53-50 in overtime to Allendale at home in the OK Conference Blue.

No more than four points separated the two teams throughout the game. Allendale had a three-point lead with six seconds left and then Ella Andree knocked down a 3-point bomb at the buzzer to tie the game and send it into overtime.

The Falcons outscored the Lakers, 11-8 in the extra period to slip away with the win.

Allendale finished the first quarter with a four-point lead, 13-9. Spring Lake came back for an 8-5 edge in the second period to shave the deficit to one, 18-17 at the half.

But the Falcons charged back, edging the Lakers, 10-9 in the third period to take a 28-26 edge into the fourth period. The Lakers got the upper hand in the fourth, 16-14 to tie it, 42-42 at the end of regulation.

Nicole Schmitt scored 12 points to lead the Lakers, while Andree finished with 11 points and seven rebounds. Alexa Carter added nine points and had a team-leading 11 rebounds. Brooke Bolthouse contributed eight points.

Hannah Schroeder led the Falcons with a game-high 19 points.

Spring Lake dropped to 10-5 overall and is still tied for second place in the conference with a 6-3 mark in the OK Blue. The Lakers are next scheduled to host Holland Christian on Friday.
