MANISTEE — Both teams made eight 3-point shots on the night, but Whitehall outscored Manistee by 11 from 2-point range and came away with a 76-49 non-conference win Tuesday night on the road.

A big first quarter helped the Vikings’ cause, as they sent the Chippewas back on their heels with a 25-5 advantage in the first period.

The Chippewas tried to recover, though, outscoring the Vikings, 19-15 in the second quarter. But the Vikings still had a substantial 40-24 lead at the half.

Whitehall put the game away with a 24-7 advantage in the third quarter, giving them a huge 64-31 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Manistee outscored Whitehall, 18-12 in the fourth.

The Vikings outscored the Chippewas, 12-7 at the free throw line while shooting 12 of 21 for 57 percent. Whitehall came away with a 34-29 rebounding edge.

Camden Thompson fired in 20 points to lead the Vikings. Kyle Stratton and Red Watson each added 12, Isaac Dehart chipped in with nine and Jack Houtteman had seven.

Thompson also had 11 rebounds and five assists with two blocks. Watson had three assists and three steals. Jack McDowell had six assists and Nate Bolley two.

Whitehall improved to 9-4 overall with its fourth straight win and will next see action Thursday at Montague.
